Dr. Bob! Kreutz wins the Gold Medal in S5C at the 11th World Spacemodeling Championships
Ljubliana, Slovenia, 1996.
The rules governing Spacemodeling competition are contained within Section 4 - Volume SM of the FAI Sporting Code
FAI Spacemodeling Rules (Effective January 1, 2003)
Typical World Championship Classes
Not all events in within the FAI rule book are flown at World Championships. Very rarely, new events are added to the World Championship suite of events; occasionally, the motor class will change (e.g. S5B rather than S5C). Each of the following links includes a description of the event, the rules, notes on competition and model construction.
NOTE: the 2001 Rule Book has significant changes in model size requirements for many classes; the links below address models and strategies for the events as flown under older rules (e.g. 30mm minimum diameter for S3A/S6A vs. the current 40mm requirement). Nevertheless, the basic information presented is still useful.
- S1B Altitude
- S3A Parachute Duration
- S4B Boost Glider Duration
- S5C Scale Altitude
- S6A Streamer Duration
- S7 Scale
- S8E Radio Controlled Rocket Glider
